3. Which type of tanning system is best? The first and best answer is; the one that is used properly by a well-trained technician applying products in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the FDA and strict adherence to occupational exposure limits of certain chemicals in those products as determined by OSHA. (Occupational Health and Safety Administration) As far as equipment goes there are two basic types available on the market today. The traditional compressor driven system utilizing either an airbrush or HVLP gun is the most prevalent of all the tanning systems and Scentual Sun’s method of choice. However, there are many differences in the compressors as well as the dispensing medium, which can drastically affect results. The newest systems on the market are "turbo" or turbine driven systems with oversized HVLP guns. The word "turbo" is just a fancy name for vacuum cleaner motor. These types of systems and their manufacturers or resellers promise the fastest tan. Some even claim you can tan a client in two minutes. It will take you longer than that to get your client's hair up and a cap on. Two minutes! Not in my salon. As I stated before, a turbine is nothing more than an extremely noisy vacuum cleaner motor compressing the air to power the gun instead of a compressor. So what is the benefit of a turbine driven HVLP system over a compressor driven HVLP system? Nothing! In fact they are extremely loud, run continuosly, utilize twice the solution and are an ergonomic and aesthetic nightmare.
